About the project

The $25.2 million project is a partnership between Launch Housing, Homes Victoria, and the City of Banyule. Construction of the Bellfield apartment block commenced in late 2021. Homes will house people currently on the Victorian Housing Register who have a priority need for housing, with many new residents having already moved in.

Homes Victoria contributed $18.61 million through the Victorian Government’s Big Housing Build. The City of Banyule took a key leadership role in providing an early opportunity for the development and in-kind contribution of a long-term lease of land valued at $2.5 million, with Launch Housing contributing the remainder.

Launch Housing, who is managing the property, has worked with Banyule Council and local community services to ensure a close connection between the new residents and the services they need. The new residential building is adjacent to the City of Banyule Community Hub, which provides maternal and child health, aged care programs and a kindergarten.

“We know there is no more important issue than housing right now, which is why we’re working harder than ever to give more people a place to call home.”

– Housing Minister Harriet Shing.

“As a developer of housing, Launch Housing is pleased to be able to help our clients move from homelessness to permanent housing. Launch Housing is a trusted pair of hands in delivering permanent and innovative housing solutions.”

– Launch Housing CEO Bevan Warner.

“I am proud that Banyule Council had the foresight to imagine this project and the initiative to make it happen. Now, 58 people and families have a comfortable and secure place to call home and the services they need in easy reach.”

– City of Banyule Mayor Tom Melican.
